Born in the United Kingdom, Eila spent her first fifteen years there, attending from the age of seven Loretto boarding school in Edinburgh. It was there, when she was asked to join the school choir, that she first became seriously interested in music, particularly singing. From there she was given many of the solos and was eventually appointed head of the choir. In her final year she was given the role of Maria in the school musical “The sound of music”. All these opportunities gave her a real boost to pursue singing further as a career.
Throughout her years in the senior school music continued to be the centre of Eila’s life. She continued with the choir and joined the chamber ensemble. At fifteen, she was again given the opportunity as the main role, Kate Hardcastle, in the school musical “The kissing dance”; an entirely sung musical by Howard Goodall based on Oliver Goldsmith’s play “She stoops to conquer”. At the end of the school year Eila completed her GCSE’s with four A*s including music, art and drama.
Following Loretto school, Eila left the UK seeking new opportunities in Cape Town, South Africa. There, she completed her final two years of schooling at Reddam House College Constantia, matriculating in 2007.
In January 2008 she attended the University of Cape Town to study music where she was classically trained both as a vocalist and pianist. Eila completed the year, passing all her exams, however financial complications prevented her from returning for her second year.
Nevertheless, Eila decided to use this year to her advantage. She performed at a number of functions throughout the year, recorded two demo tracks and set about raising money to record her album. As a keen artist, in her spare time Eila satisfies her passion for realism by drawing and painting-in particular naturalistic interpretations animals and landscapes from the Karoo. In the next couple of months she plans to have completed works for her ‘Open Exhibition’ held in the lobby of a Hotel in Cape Town, a date is still to be set, however it is likely to be in mid-September 2009. All are welcome!
