Rachel
Lehrman is a practicing artist and writer. Most recently,
she pioneered a 4,500 sq foot installation entitled Nomadics
at Trinity Buoy Wharf in east London. The installation marked
the launch of Nomadic-Collaborations, an international arts-collective
which Rachel founded with fellow collaborators Emily Orley
and Eileen Botsford. The collective aims to unite artists
specialised in disparate fields in order to create larger,
more complicated projects that engage multiple senses and
invite audience/participants to create a journey. Some of
their community projects include an installation at the
Hayward Gallery as part of the Hayward’s Phantasmagoria
program in October 2004.
Currently, Rachel teaches at Lansdowne college and lectures
in performance at Roehampton University where she is entering
her final year as a PhD student. Rachel’s research
is practice-based and focuses on artistic collaboration
in installation art. In 2002, she completed an MFA in creative
writing poetry at the University of Arizona. In addition
to teaching at the university, Rachel directed the ASUA
Women’s Resource Centre and coordinated the city’s
Take-Back-The-Night-- a march and concert to protest domestic
violence. She also worked as the volunteer coordinator at
Kore Press where she taught bookbinding.
Rachel’s poetry has appeared in several small magazines.
She has performed her work publicly in both Arizona and
Massachusetts. In 2004, her poetry was displayed on the
opening night of Tenemos at the Camden People’s Theatre.
